Alright, so recently I've started to have an issue where the car cranks fine but doesn't start immediately. It will after a few seconds of cranking. All gauges read fine and I'm not getting any trouble codes. It hasn't stranded me yet but it's a little stressful wondering if this will be time it doesn't eventually start. (Car is a 93 LT1 and is a daily driver).
I've read to check into the electrical connections for ignition, emissions, and fuel systems, but those were all checked fairly recently. Also, cleaned up all grounds before replacing ECM over a year ago. I'll be checking everything again later today.
The second problem I've had for a while now (since last November). When I first put the car in gear after starting, the engine wavers for a few seconds as though it's about to quit but then picks up to her usual purr and rpms, and is fine for the rest of the drive (except for the third problem). Usually, the longer I let it run before putting it in gear, the less dramatic the wavering.
And the third problem which is fairly rare and new to my car (been driving it since 2005), there will occasionally be about a small delay in acceleration. And when it does accelerate, it seems to overcompensate just a bit, but that could just be my perception.
I'm hoping that perhaps all these problems are tied together and will make the fix a little easier less costly. Anyways, wise members of the forum, please point me in the right direction!
I recently read a post from a forum member that stated his car also had the symptom of a longer than usual cranking time before starting. In the end he found that his temperature sensor for the ECM was bad. After changing it out the problem went away.
I'm sure there is a checkout for this sensor in the field service manual, perhaps one of the more knowledgeable folks will chime in soon.
My first impression from reading this is that the fuel pump relay is not working so the oil pressure switch has to take over the function of turning on the fuel pump.
Measure the fuel pressure. Check it after turning on the ignition without starting the engine, idling after starting the engine, and at WOT. Also check for leaking injectors by looking at the fuel pressure after the engine has been off for a few minutes (10-15).
