I always when safe, yield to an upcoming car, especially if I am in the "passing" lane. It tells/demonstrates to someone else, you will move out of his way and by inference, when you need it: he should move out of yours! It seems to me you would have had a more pleasant and safe encounter if you had taken the initiative to move out of the upcoming vehicle's way. Don't take this personal but personally, I would have read you as a left lane camper and passed you on the right.
But how I read the law" keep right except to pass" , so in theory anyway, the only lane that you can "camp" in, is the far right lane.

Actually, in Calif, you can stay in the left lane(s) as long as you maintain the speed limit and do not drop below it. I don't recommend it but by the strict letter of the law , it's legal. take it from a retired Chippy.
I was on the interstate one night going about 80 and passing a long line of 18 wheelers. It was realy late on a Sunday night. An F150 flew up behind me and stayed lass than a foot off my back bumper. I am not exaturating. He could not see my taillights.
I actually considered unbolting my targa and letting it go through his windshield. He deserved it! I have been tailgated plenty of times, but I have never had anyone that close to me. It scared the poopie out of me. I don't know how he didn't hit me.

On any given day when I could I would. But this part of 680 on SJ is 40 mph since it's sort of a bottleneck. it's like this for a few miles then it opens up. I'd move if there wasn't a car next to me, in front of me and the azzhole behind me. Once it opened up, I let the car pass and got behind it. That's why I was also able to just leave when she got the point. I'm not an butt on the road and I stick to the road etiquete(sp?) most of the time. It's just when the "totally arrogant, cut people off, weave in and out of traffic, get on people's asses and endanger people's lives" drivers are racin around totally oblivious to the fact that I want to come home safe.:mad
I'm just now noticing that when I'm stopped at the light, People tend to come in pretty fast and then stop at the last second before they rear end me. Then they're so close there's no play in between the cars. It bugs the heck out of me and scares me as well. I find myself saying outloud "dont hit me. dont' you f@ing hit me!!" :mad

Not only are you correct, you can also go under the speed limit and by law you can go app 45-55 mph (65 mph zone) and still be within the law!
What I get from your post and also what I see, is that the powers that be are not interested in enforcing the "keep right" except to pass concept. Which is probably I have lost my left lane to pass expectation a long long time ago. Not to mention the fact that it is legal to pass on the right in CA.
( I have been driving 35 yrs with no caused motor vehicle accidents and over 1m miles)
Wisdom: Let 'em pass...pull over let them through; You'll be richer and more hastle-free for it. Not to mention, your vette will be better off that way too. Ever see a bullet go through fiberglass? IMHO
Soccer moms or old pos cars can tailgate and speed but let a sports car LOOK like they're doing something wrong and the cops are pulling you over. :mad

Irregardless of what the law states, I think it is the polite and decent thing to stay out of the left lane unless you are passing someone. I do not know the exact details of this incedent but I have seen alot of tailgating that could have been avoided and would have been safer if the lead driver would simply move out of the left lane and let the faster traffic go on.
I remember this guy, i was stopped in traffic (bumper to bumper) and he comes from my right side out of a drive way, and sticks the corner of his bumper in between the front of my car and the back of the car in front of me. I tried not to let him go, but i didnt want to wreck. I horned and he had the nerve to flip ME the bird!! I hate these idiots! :cuss
Keeping my foot on the gas, I always press the brake pedal enough to activate the brake lights without significantly pinching the binders. That always scares the stool outta tailgaters!

Since you were sitting in bumber to bumber traffic why not do the polite thing and let him in? After all you weren't going anywhere.
if you were in the left lane when she was riding your azz she should have flipped you off. if she was tailgateing in the right lane she got what she deserved. i hate slow traffic in the left lane.

I was in the left along with all the cars in front of me and behind me. stayed 1 car length behind the person in front of me. There's car's beside me on the right so I couldn't get over. I couldn't go forward anymore since I'm keeping my distance from the other car. She was on my azz. Where do you want me to go? the median? The traffic is 40 mph which can still give you that room to back off the guy. She wanted to go 70 when everybody's going 40. should everyone on the left lane merge for her? hell no. :mad

I couldn't agree with you more. I posted in the way of information only and suggest keep right and let the fools pass to the left in the "show off" lane. It's a lot easier on your blood pressure.

:p: Just smile, you'll live longer, and they'll be even more pissed off. I think most of these actions are a result of ignorance rather than bad intentions. Save your bitterness for the telemarketers, it's safer.

Re: Tailgater flips me off... (tuajer)
Tailgater do suck. But, take it easy my friend, no need to get too worked up over some a-hole. Sometimes I'd let them pass, point at their cars and laugh! This gets them all the time!
in georgia the signs say slower traffic keep right. i understand what the speed limit is but lets be real. if you are in the left lane going 100 mph and the car behind you is going 110 mph, you are slower traffic. move over to the right and let them pass. for the most part people in atlanta understand this but you will see the old guy in his luxury rice going 55mph in the left lane.
its an easy system "SLOWER TRAFFIC KEEP RIGHT" do this and you wont have a problem. do it on all 4 lane roads and interstates.
