Air Filter
On my 87, does the filter fit in the slot or on the outside---and the cover holds in in place---standard filter wont fit inside the housing, so I am figuring it fits in the cover, and the cover holds it on--Thanks in advance!!

The edge of the cover clamps down on the edge of the filter. You can see the edge of the filter around the edge of the cover. Since I just replaced mine with a brand new AC Delco A917C a couple of days ago, it's dramatically obvious here (I'm not a fan of the orange color, but it is what it is):
