Default tire question

ive seen on a post that 255/55/17 tires wont fit on the front, but i seen people say their running 335/35/17s on the front too. so what is the truth will 255/55/17s work in the front, or not?

I'm running 275 40 in the front on ZR 1 reproduction wheels, 17 x 9.5 no clearance issues.
The wheels have the correct offset for my 85, so no adapters either. Rear are 315 35 on 17 x 11

They should fit, but they will be pretty tall.

The stock tires are
255/50/16 = 26.1" dia.
These are
255/55/17 = 28.0" dia

Late C4's used
255/45/17 = 26.1"
They might be a better choice.

I wouldn't use a 255/55-17, just too tall

The factory 255/45-17 on later C4's was on an 8.5" rim
Some models also came with 275/40-17 all around on 9.5" rims.
Those tires have a diameter of approx. 25.66"

I run 255 35 19"'s all aroud on my 84 - 255 55 16"s are quite a hard size to get in the UK and it was cheaper to buy new wheels and tyres than it was to simply buy the tyres

thats on an 8.5" rim with the correct offset - but they are 120mm PCD which is slightly different but works out about the thickness of a human hair each side off from the 4.75" PCD and I have hud centric rings on there to ensure they're centred

to run 255 55 17's your spedo would need to be recalibrated wouldn't it as the rolling size would be a fair bit out?
