Default TV cable

HI
Just changed the TV cable and still not acting right,Can somebody explain to me what the cable is supposed to do when the cable is advanced and what it is supposed to do when pushed back in,I do not want to make adjustments until I understand what it is supposed to do.When installed I adjusted it till it clicked, what some advised me to do.Some said you will have to make some final adjustments. At some speeds it will downshift for a second then go into the right gear. When winding it full throttle works fine.

Only one correct way to SET it ; not ADJUST it

If you push the cable housing away from the throttle body you will increase the line pressures in the trans.

The problem with doing this "adjustment" is that the TV cable will go right back to where it was the next time you go to WOT. Just set it "by the book" and leave it alone.

I don't know of any TV cable that can be locked such that it holds the adjustment.

"While most GM publications use the term "adjust", when you actually followed their procedure, what you actually accomplished was to "set" the system to its correct
W.O.T. position which will in turn automatically "set" the correct starting position.
We are not aware of a single GM publication that advocates "adjusting" the TV cable once it has been properly "set".
We are not being "****" about semantics here but commenting on the wide spread belief that the TV cable system can be "adjusted" to make the transmission "act" better.
As far as we know, this system was never designed nor intended to be a transmission behavior adjuster.
We further feel this is a very dangerous practice being performed by many "professional" transmission shops and mechanics.

Read these two references and appreciate two facts:

The first reference advises to adjust the cable by actuating the throttle under the hood, therefore ensuring that at wide open throttle the throttle valve in the transmission is fully actuated, and thus providing the desired line pressure at WOT and at all throttle settings. If your throttle cable doesn't fully open the throttle blades with the pedal to the floor (most don't), then your TV cable will be under extended and line pressures will be low for all throttle positions.

Second fact: The only "Tweaking" of the cable is to pull it out too far. This causes the same low pressure result as above. Adjusting the cable to open the throttle valve before reaching WOT will get "corrected" the first time you floor it.
