Default c4 exhaust

Hey guys I have a 1984 corvette, and want your input for exhaust. What are some of your setups? I don't want it too loud, but I definetly want to be heard. Tell me what you suggest! Thanks

An exhaust upgrade is a good investment. I'd recommend a set of longtube headers and a set of mufflers you like the sound of.

I went with Melrose headers, 3" pipes, cat delete, and Magnaflow mufflers. It's pretty loud, but I've got zero regrets.

I currently run with the stock "headers", stock front y-pipe, MagnaFlow cat, Walker rear y-pipe with crossover and Allen's baffled muffler eliminators. It's definitely louder than the stock setup but not loud enough to be annoying at highway speeds. I get compliments all the time on it. The total cost of the rear y-pipe and eliminators was $350. I spent another $150 on the cat because at the time I needed to pass NYS emissions. What's your budget?

I think TPIS.com supports your model year, and you can also try Exotic Muscle. Otherwise, headers should be available via Hooker (budget friendly).

I know I'm not going to put headers on, I think I might just go with some different muffler(s). Possibly flowmaster super 44's. Thanks for your input it definetly helps.

If you go with super 44s stock up on aspirin. The best way to get real input on this topic is to do a search. you will find a noob asking the same question everyday and get answers.

I apologize for being short yesterday. I was in a hurry when I posted and my post seems a little rude even to me.

I had the super 44s on my 91, on the highway they game me a headache. I have also had the magnaflow and they did not drone although some have have a droning problem i did not. There are also some members that have had trouble with the muffler hanger.

The best exhaust if you want no drone(i have not had these) seems to be Corsa. There is also the OBX that is fairly new.

I have a thread where I go from stock with Flowmaster 44s to Magnaflows and finaly end up with stock 93 LT1 exhaust because i changed headers.

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c4-t...te-videos.html

Right now I'm running the stock 93 exhaust with an LS engine it sounds mellow until you get in it. I may take out the resonator in the future but I kinda like it how it is.

Flowmasters get a bad rap for good and bad reasons, but really it's about getting the proper types for these cars....I have a full exhaust from TPIS from the LT headers to their year y-pipe that includes three chamber Flowmasters.....there is no drone in this car as TPIS told me they had the exhaust tuned for minimal drone....it has a nice sound with the mods I have, but nothing overbearing.....just sounds like a muscle car which I like...

the only real complaint I have is the black paint on the rear y-pipe....I struggle to keep it on....even with heat paint

Did you cut out your rear mufflers, or the front one?

The people who have problems with Flowmasters and drone are using the wrong part number. I have the direct replacements on my 91 and even with my modified engine have no drone inside. If anything, they are almost too quiet.

Super 44's all the way at the back of the exhaust system will drone because they are not the correct muffler for the application. The best comparison I can give is buying Ford valve cover gaskets for your Chevy - they are both valve cover gaskets, but each has a different application.

Get the direct replacement mufflers and it will be quiet on the inside so you can still listen to music, have a conversation, etc., and it will still have a nice rumble out the back.

They drone LOL. I go through a parking lot and set off peoples car alarms that have them set a little to sensitive. At highway speed the drone is not that bad but in the lower gears or coming off the gas and down shifting people know that you are coming :-)

Default C4 with No Mufflers - Inspector said get Mufflers Quick!

Car came from Colorado with no mufflers. Here are pics of the underneath exhaust. Don't know what type of exhaust is on it now. He said cats are descent.

I'm not sure I'm going to keep the car as I want to try it out for a month.

But I need to put some mufflers on it and not sure whether to put Magnaflows on it or Stock Mufflers or Cheapies(probably not even if I sell it later).

I went with this system last month. I did also go with headers but this bolts up to stock exhaust manifolds. I like the mellow sound, not loud till you stomp on it. oh, I have an 86 auto. I did away with the cats.

Well if I'm understanding this correctly I think I've decided to go with MagnaFlow with the black tips like are on the car right now and if you noticed the right tip is a little crooked it just looks like it was welded on crooked so I'll make sure they straighten that out when they attach it to the new Magnaflow. I have to keep the cats as it is a state law.

I'm sure not going to go with chrome tips of any kind with tinted windows a black stripe and black wheels.

if you're replacing the entire system, I suggest a walker OE replacement system, however, upgrade to the 86-91 design (w/ catless, pre-cat front y-pipe). the mufflers (quietflow's) have dual functioning tips. not sure why they're called quietflow - they have a good, deep tone, that rivals my corsas. they are not-in-your-face loud, and don't draw too much attention, but just a good sound, just a little louder than stock. I went with a walker OE replacement on my 85 and couldn't be happier. total cost (from summit racing) around $550-$600.
