I had a problem with the IAC a few years ago just like this. Car will not stay running when you come to a stop. its a 4+3 87. If i keep a tiny bit of gas it will idle just fine at about 5-700, but if you come to a stop, the idle will drop to 1-200 and die.. its like the computer cant catch it before it idles to slow. If i manage it (keep some foot in it) till im stopped and let off it will stay idleing.. IF i start it and let it sit, it idles fine.. its just when the enigne is reved a bit and you let off, it cant "catch it" before it dies..
as it was the IAC a few years ago (and its cheap) i bought another and it seemed to fix it.. for a day or two.. is there something that could kill IAC? I guess i can buy yet anotehr and see..
car runs smooth and idles smooth otherwise. One other thing, when i used to start it i could give it some gas, nowdays if I TOUCH the throttle on start it wont start (like its flooding or to much gas).. but if i just hit the starter 9dont touch anything) it starts right up..(as it should) but idles way to slow.. maybe the cold temp sender for the computer?
