Sitting in parking lot an ingnition turn over but not engine starter engagement. Is this vats and will the bypass kit fix this. 2nd time this am. First time for problem.
Yeah, VATS is so unreliable that I deleted mine. A simple and cheap way to do a VATS delete is to remove the starter enable relay and pop off the cover, then solder the contact points closed. It is very easy to do. Then purchase a VATS delete chip to install in your ECM under the hood. There is also a thread on DIY called vatssucks.com or something like that, that was helpful to me.
Thanks for the tip, found the web site. Does not go into the 95. The starter enable fix not a problem can do its the ecm vats delete chip I am confused about.
Mine is a 1990 convertible. The ECM is in the engine compartment, drivers side, against the firewall. After you purchase an ECM VATS delete chip you simply install it into your ECM. Make sure your ignition is off and negative battery cable disconnected. The ECM is easy to remove. Turn it upside down and remove the small cover. Inside you will see the prom chip. It has a clip on each end of it. With your thumbs, press the clips outwards. This releases the chip and pushes the chip up towards you. By doing the starter enable relay and the chip in your ECM you have eliminated the VATS system.
Just for the record, my car is a 90 vert and is probably quite different than a 95. Good luck fixing the problem. I have had a lot of fun fixing mine with the help of forum members.
If I am not mistaken the 95 ECM has a non removable prom.
If you specify what year you are talking about when asking for help, you will get more accurate info. ESP not real good over the net
You either get your PCM re-flashed with a non VATS tune , which requires sending your unit away
or if you have some mech / elec experience ,buy and install one of these (or similar ) http://www.bakerelectronix.com/products_vats/
to generate the required signal.
Both methods require bypassing the starter enable relay
Usual place to start is by using a new / good key and cleaning the contacts inside the key barrel that read the resistor pellet on the key
