can anyone tell me if the steering wheel on my '94 is on a spline or is it in a single fixed position, the front wheel alignment is correct but since the steering column pins were replaced a few months ago the steering wheel is now maybe about 2 or 3 inches out of square, so can I take it off and move it around until it all lines up? and if it can be done how difficult is it, hope this makes sense

A later model with SIR is definitely "indexed" and is intended for "only" that install. I also doubt that it a proper "fix" or if it can be done on an "early" car either but i won't debate that.
A proper alignment involves the center of the steering wheel once on the pads and then "toe is corrected" at the tie rods.

OP - don't even consider trying it!!
So if I have read this correctly the steering wheel needs to be positioned in the "straight ahead" position and the road wheels adjusted to match? is that right ?

Yep - That's the way all alignments "should" be accomplished.
Replacement of the pins in the column shouldn't have effected the steering wheel position. I believe the hub of the wheel has a 1/2" line for 12 o'clock.
