If you are using premium gas (91 Octane or higher) and the initial timing is set correctly, there should be no pinging under load. Are you using 87 octane unleaded regular??
Base timing should be 6 degrees BTDC with the tan wire with black stripe disconnected (esc bypass). Reconnect after timing has been set, and then disconnect the negative battery cable for 30 seconds to clear the code set.
Clearly you have something amiss, the knock sensor should be retarding any detonation.
If you can hook up to a scanner it will show if your Knock retard system is working properly. A scanner should show a few knock counts at startup , then any knock counts after that should show the timing being pulled to stop the knocking...I also think your system is not working properly....WW
