Default Hard to start

92 LT1 6 spd with 96K. Just in the past week car has been hard to start after sitting for an hour or more. Engine turns over real good but acts like it is not getting fuel. Once it fires it runs great no issues accelerating through the gears or going down the road. I use chevron gas and buy it at the same station all the time. This did start about a day or two after I last filled up, but I figure that is just coincidence. Any suggestions? As always thank you in advance as the members here are just great.

Check your fuel pump relay. If it's bad, the car is relying on the backup system (oil pressure switch) to energize the fuel pump circuit. If that is the case, the oil pressure has to build to approx 4 psi through cranking to close the switch and energize the fuel pump.

Put a fuel pressure gauge on the fuel rail, turn key on but don't crank it. It should spike to 40ish and hold for several minutes. I'm betting you get zero....until you crank the car for 5 seconds.

If you shut it off and 5 minutes later it refires immediately, it still has residual fuel pressure left in the rail. After an hour, it has all bled off.

PS...for the record, if your relay IS working, the oil pressure switch never comes into play. Wired in parallel, not series, with the relay.

Thanks for the info. I will see if I can get a fuel pressure gauge and check.
