After a bit of a struggle deciding, I ditched the Bose in the 1990 convertible. My car was missing a speaker and it didn't have a CD player anyway. I usually do my own installations, but with the required re-wire, I went to a shop. They installed a nice Kenwood deck that doesn't look too out of place. It has the multi-color display and I found a decent orange with reverse image to match the speedo. I'll post a pic once I find my camera.
I went high end on the install using US made speakers and amp. They reused the Bose housings and re-wired the entire car. The amp is mounted behind the passenger seat. They went through the entire interior and replaced the carpeting on the sills and speaker grills and fixed anything broken. So this set me back about $1500. A little decadent for me but on the Vette, I really wanted a professional do the re-wire. As it's been posted here, the factory speaker wire isn't sized to push a hot signal since the amps are on the speaker.
The funny thing is on this "80's tech" car I now have hands free blue tooth, pandora, satellite radio, USB inputs, etc. I would have never dreamed of having this technology in a 1 Din unit back in 1990.
That looks great! Nice that you got everything done professionally, too. My 85 has a Kenwood in it, as well, installed by a shop. But, it was the PO who did that. It looks nice and I like it, but yours looks terrific, as it goes so very well with the interior. Enjoy!
I like it. And the coloration of the backlighting matches the car nicely, looks like it belongs there. If my Bose ever takes a crap, I'd like to have that exact unit.
