My father in law has a 94 convertible auto that he's not having a lot of fun with anymore and might soon just pass it on to me. I need some opinions on what I should do with it. It is about to turn 200,000 on the clock. The lt1 in it blew 5000 miles ago so be dropped a v8 from a Buick in it and it runs as strong or stronger than before the lt1 blew.
That being said the condition of the chassis is what I have concerns about. I believe the original bilsteins are on it. If they aren't it needs new shocks anyways badly.
It needs a new top which isn't too big of a job, and the interior needs a lot of tlc.
My question to you is that if this car is passed on to me, is it really worth it to put the money into it with as many miles that it has on the body or should I just try to drive it while I look for a nicer one without putting anything into it except for shocks and the roof?
Ill try to post some pictures later so you can see what I'd be working with.

I know, it sounds weird. at first I thought he had put a lt1 from a buick into it, but I think he changed to something else at the last minute. I'll have a chance to talk to him tomorrow about it. I'm as curious as you are about that one.
yeah, that's a big concern man. a Buick engine in an LT1 Corvette?? I dunno, might be best to rebuild the original engine and sell the Buick engine to recoup some of the cost. that's near sacrilege, lol. i'd like to see pics. I can't imagine he left all of the wiring intact. could be a basket case..
Might be a basket case keeps ringing in my head like a broken bell. There are so many places this swap could go wrong I suggest you go forward an a super slow speed.
Most likely came from a Buick Roadmaster which also had a version of the Lt-1.

If you like the car, take it and make it a project. It will be a nice hobby for those times when you need a little "space" from the mrs, and keep you out of trouble.
If you don't really like the car, then tell your father in law that it's more than you really want to deal with right now and offer to help him sell it via this forum. You know his car, his money afterall.
People get too hung up I'm miles. If you want to keep it and have a nice car, spend the cash. If you're going to try and recoup some cash, sell it as is.
