I want to restore the cigarette lighter so that I can use my Garman. I took pics of what I have and need to know what I need and maybe some pics of one that is installed. I would be happy to purchase the parts from a CF member so that I can "get er done"! I bought the lighter assembly but if you look, the orange wire is capped and I will need the part that pushes on to the lighter assembly. Also, I need the part that connects in the hole to anchor the assembly. Someone must have a C4 parts car that can help me out with what I need or a source to where I can purchase what I need. Please help as I need it back together by August 11th. This is a 1985 model. Here are the pics:
If you're not concerned with the "lighter" function you want to buy a later receptacle for use. They generally perform better. You will need the receptacle, a different wiring connector and the retainer that holds the receptacle in the dash.
You should be able to be helped by a GM dealer or it's likely an auto parts store might offer a package. A fairly talented GM parts guy should be able to help you and actually if you wanted a "cap/cover" for it that would just be a 4th piece required. Take your old receptacle and the threaded retainer with you to offer up a sample.
Thanks for your reply. I was hoping someone had a "parts" car and I could buy what I needed. I'll have to post in the FS/WTB section.
It would be way less expensive, less time consuming and actually do what you want it to do with "NEW" OE parts. Maybe no less but I would guarantee the price would be "competitive" and work!
If you want used then just visit a salvage yard that's close and buy any later GM accessory receptacle and when you remove it get it all, the receptacle, the retainer, the cap/cover and the connector to the back-side. If you get one that doesn't work then it's a short trip to get the next one. You should have likely a hundred or more to chose from a "smaller" salvage yard that does later model cars.
