Default Replacing Water Pump - Need Advice

I'm going to try and replace my water pump this weekend, does anyone have any tips or advice which might help me. For example, do I need to de-pressurize the fuel system, and how do I do that??

I already know to watch out which way I put the fuel lines back on, any other gotchas?

Also, do I need any special tools or equipment?

Thanks.

The Hanes manual says you do. You should buy one, fifteen bucks to save you from scratching yer head. I'll also be changing the water pump this weekend on my '85. Hehe, maybe I should stop by!

You really don't have to disconect the fuel lines but it helps. you'll need Flair wrenches the right size so you don't mess up the fittings. The bigest Gottcha is the nipple for the heater hose is longer than standard so if you can't get the old one out. you may need to make one from pipe fittings at the local hardware store. The only other hard part is getting the bolts out of the Compressor as one of them is real dastardly and wont come all the way out un less you remove the pulley & clutch from the compressor. You want to make sure the studs for the compressor bracket which are also the right side waterpump bolts stay tight. Torque em and come back in a half hour or so and check them before final assembly. I found out about this the hard way as a dealer did mine and I had to do it over!
