Because wives kept buying C4 fender covers from Corvette vendors for their husbands at Christmas.
Husbands opened present and said WTF
Vendors pressured Chevrolet to put bumpers back on car.

I seem to recall reading in the 90's after the C5 was introduced that Insurance cost is what pressured GM to drop the clamshell design.

^That's not true. Hood style has absolutely nothing to do with "structural integrity, weight reduction, and performance". Other features about the car define those criteria.

It is/was all about COST.

Is that why the C7 doesn't have a painted rear valence? Ford did it for awhile on the Mustang - but then so does the '14 RAV4. To me, it looks cheap (unless you get a black one). GM should at least offer an option for a complete paint job.

its a four letter word. Dodge wouldn't even continue making them for the Viper. Here's a hint, begins with "C" and ends with "T".
