Thinking about paying to have my TT2 polished wheels powder coated flat black. My 93 C4 is black ... However, it's an expense and hassle to do this, so not sure if it's worth the expense, hassle, etc.
I don't know the craze with black wheels. Especially on a black car, there is almost no contrast. I had my wheels powder-coated too, slow turn time, but I love the end result.
An all black C4 is highly underrated ... Any Pics fo your black wheels, mnstrlt1?
Yep, I posted them on the "wheels" thread. By all means, if you have a "look" in mind, go for it. I just wanted a little bit of a "break" in color between wheels and tires. My 93' c4 had the silver painted wheels, it's in my album.

$30.
Then you can decide if you want to spend $500 or however much it costs.
This is just an opinion, by all means you should do what makes YOU happy. You drive the car every day, right?
I think black wheels look best on lighter colored cars so as to give some contrast. Silver and white come to mind. I personally think darker colored cars look better with silver or polished wheels for contrast, just as the black will contrast on a lighter color car.
Was walking around the GM Nationals at Carlisle this summer, and saw a LOT of cars with black wheels, and I have to say that the flat or matte finish just does not look very good in real life as opposed to pictures, IMO... The gloss black wheels just really "pop". I have a silver car as my driver, and I am seriously considering having my aftermarket wheels powder coated in gloss black after what I saw at this show. Go out and see some for yourself and then make your decision. It isn't a cheap decision...

Agreed. "Piano black" is what most guys are now referring to it as (gloss black).
Not a fan of all black wheels but I must admit, 1bdvet's wheels don't look bad at all. Maybe it's the chrome center cap and bright rotors showing through that make a good contrast to the wheels. That's why I choose the polished outer rim and outside rivets with chrome lugs to give it contrast.
I have a '93 Ruby, and thought about having ZR1 wheels painted Ruby Red, but maybe that would be too much ruby, but maybe a light wine color like on the 50th anniversary cars. I guess they are a pinkish red color? I'm slightly color blind so maybe I should just leave them natural aluminum.
Where can I buy Plasty-Dip and how do you guys apply it to wheels? I guess doing a plasty application for a looksy and if looks good, will drop the big $ for powder coating!
This is a great look, but I think it all depends on the wheel style. I agree with what was said about losing the distinction between the wheel and the tire and most often you see guys running a black wheel that has a polished lip - or a red stripe as in one of the examples. I think these work because they're gloss black and they allow the calipers and rotors to show through.

It's sold in rattle cans at auto supply stores. Take a look at "YouTube" (under plasti-dip) to see examples, and how it's applied.
