Hey! I'm having a little problem here. When I put my car into reverse or drive there is a loud clang when my car squats as if my gears or something is hitting. I don't know what it could be...Please help!
i had that happen on my 82. it was the transmission hitting the cross-member. The rubber bushing in between wore out. dunno if this applies to the c4 also. good luck!
I'm 20 with no kids...LOL This was happening before I rebuilt my trans and On my other thread I heard U-Joints. I made sure everything was in its proper place and tightened to spec. I haven't replaced my U-Joints on the rear half shafts yet But I did replace the ones on my drive shaft.

U-joints are a common problem since the OEM Spicers do not have grease zerks.
The easiest way to check these without removal is to visually inspect
for rust dust appearing from under the rubber boots that seal the bearings.
If you see rust dust its time to replace.
Another problem with the early 700R4's is the jerk into reverse.
My trans guy explained they changed a spring in there to soften the entry into reverse.
I jacked the car up and inspected the rear shafts U-Joints. The driver side U-Joint connected to the rear end was broke in several pieces. I removed both shafts and removed the U-Joints, haven't had time to put them back in yet...Will do so Friday.
