I'm posting this for my dad. He has a 1990 Vette. It’s an auto trans car but the shift light is lighting up on the dash which I'm guessing that should only happen on the manual trans? Any ideas what it could be? We haven’t starting any diagnostics yet, just trying to see if we can get someone to point us to a starting point
When my auto in the '88 started slipping from 3rd to 4th it would rev too high and the shift light would come on. No big deal. Complete rebuild and shift light stays off, unless I manually shift and over rev.
hahahaha!! I would also agree that something may be amiss. my Porsche 944 has a shift indicator light. Porsche called is CASIS or computer assisted shift indicator system. the light comes on at part throttle at a point that the ecu determines that better fuel mileage can be obtained by switching to the next highest gear. it will also come on under full acceleration near redline. at no point will it come on when the engine is revved up. The only thing I can think of would be the Corvette's shift indicator works strictly off of engine rpm's, with or without a load present.
