I was getting ready to do some cleaning in the Vette today, since it spent a couple of days at the airport under the sun.
I have also been looking at either buying a cockpit cover or making one with an older car cover (which I have almost complete).
The pictures below will show that I might be a little to late, but still confirm that it is needed.
While setting my two bags in the rear compartment, I moved the spare tire bag and left it resting a bit on the back of the pax seat. I moved it today to fing the spare tire bag stained in what seemed to be paint. I thought that I had somehow stained it when I painted the bumper, but when I touched the stain it had some stickyness to it; unlikely from paint laid on it 4 weeks ago.
Turns out that the sun heat cooked the interior long enough to cause the vinyl to melt the plastic on the seat back cover.
Do not let this happen to you.
Anybody has an inexpensive Ruby Red seat back cover...?
And it seems red is the worst. I threw a CD case in the back and within a month it left a permanent dark spot where the carpet faded around it. I have been looking at the cockpit covers since the first day I bought my car. Still havent pulled the trigger but when I replace the carpet, you can bet it will have the cover!
I bought the pro top silvertech (part 659-002) from Mid America for $59 and I love it! It's light weight and stores in a small bag. Keeps the inside very cool!
I suppose this is why the owners manual states not to store the acrylic top in the back when the solid top is installed. Too much heat will warp the acrylic top.
I've never seen that happen before on any car that I've owned and I live in the desert where 115 degrees is common. Wow.
