My HVAC flashes when I crank the car up, it's an 08 code which, from what I've read, is a solar load sensor code. This is the sensor by the windshield on the dash. I have already put a piece of electrical tape over the sensor to see if code would clear since the sensor is missing the little black cap. Didn't work. So I guess I need to replace it but I'm having a difficult time finding a new sensor. Anyone have a part number for this sensor? Also, can I open it up and just replace the photoresistor or whatever it is that has failed within the sensor assembly? Just curious.
Also, the temp down, auto, off, and recirculate buttons aren't working (they used to); is the sun sensor failure related?
I can't answer for the sensor but the buttons not working is not related. This is a common problem with the later C4's and is cured by removing the button assembly and cleaning the contacts. It takes about an hour and starts by removing the console lid. There is a good write up on this forum just search for climate control buttons. I had this for years and then saw this write up and tried it. Problem solved and still working.
No way to get a new one? I'm tempted to try and replace the photoresistor. Or maybe one from a 97+ would work? I see those for sale new but not the 91-96.
I measured the resistance of my old sensor and it's really high (200k - 500k ohms) but it does fluctuate when I cover & uncover the photoresistor.. It's not shorted which is what my HVAC was telling me with code 08. Since I unplugged it I get code 07 which is open circuit which would be correct.. So I wonder what's going on with this stupid sensor?
