Know the valve guide seals are coming due for replacement. But drove the car to the store today maybe out 6 miles on came home parked it in the drive way. Went to start it after getting a new rubber for the pcv valve and the car is just smoking away at a idle. Changing the rubber have anything to so with it or do I suddenly have a bigger problem?

Sounds like your PCV valve is not working correctly. Pull it out of the valve cover and check for vacuum on the bottom. That vacuum source is the intake manifold.
You should also have vacuum on the passenger side valve cover. Pull off the fitting and there should be vacuum on the hole in the valve cover. It sucks filtered air from the throttle body.
There should be a diagram on the radiator shroud that shows the emissions connections. I think they are the same in '85 and '86. This is what mine looks like:
