Door rods
I'm struggling with my 85! The plastic clip which connects the exterior handle with the door mechanism rotted and broke. I drove it all summer and finally decided to take it apart and see what was wrong. Well, I found the clip was broken, finally figured out I could buy one and did, even bought a new rod! well, that was no help. I'm thinking i must have missed something. There are two holes on the lock mechanism, each of them is too short to open the door! the one I thought I took the rod off when it was broken, binds with then won't move the door mechanism far enough to open it! Sorry to be so wordy but am somewhat stuck and want to drive before the weather gets too bad! haven't driven it since Carlisle!

See if this might help. The rod on the left in the image is the handle rod that opens the door. It drops into a hole that should be visible from the top of the door looking down through the window opening. That is where the image was taken and it's a "right" door:
