This is my first post about an issue(s).... but I have been using this site regularly since got my car about a month ago. It's an 84'.
Here are a couple issues I have run ito so far that I need a bit of help with:
1) Climate control - The fan - L, M1,M2 work fine but when I switch to H it just stops. When I select, AC - Max, Norm, Vent, Heat, Defrost... it seems like the air coming out doesn't change... comes out a bit from all vents the same. I checked the selecter and it does move on the little wheel thingy.... nothing is disconnected - all wires look good?
2) I found what I beleive to be a ground wire on the pass side door area just above the upper hinge on the body. The wire is black and connected by a screw into the body but it looks like it was chopped or broke off? Nothing is on the driver side. Not sure if that wire is related to the fact that my pass side mirror electronic control does not work and that the power lock on that side will not work. Power lock button does work on drivers side but will not unlock pass side.
That would suggest the switch and relay are working correctly but you have no power to the relay for the Hi speed when relay changes over to that position
At the Hi speed relay under the hood ,
check for 12V on the red wire , should be hot with the key off ).
If not the fusible link on the wire from the starter motor is blown
Thanks for responses. I can't find that relay you speak of? See attached pic of my engine bay. The issue of the controller in various modes not changing where the air goes - window - vents, floor has me puzzled as well.
Remove the resistor module on the top of the evaporator housing. When you look in the opening you can see the blend door that controls the temperature of the air coming out of the HVAC ducts. When you move the COLD -- HOT lever to the extremes you should see the blend door move correspondingly. Here's what the two positions look like (max COLD first, then max HOT):
