Default Rear speaker problem

I'm having a problem with the bose sound system in my 94. Apparently the rear speakers all decided to stop working at the same time. The car lives in another state, so I'm just trying to get ideas for fixing this next time I see it. I've seen signs of mice in the past, and just wondered if the wires might have been chewed, since it seems really strange for both to stop working at the same time. I'm planning on figuring out where the wires run and checking them as much as i can. Any ideas?

You will find that there are four wires from the harness to the amp (each speaker has its own amp). Two wires carry sound (purple yellow) and two wires carry 12VDC (orange black). Test the DC wires with a multi meter. Test the sound wires by connecting a cheap Walkman type headphone/ear bud to the wires with either a small jumper wire or those handy jumper wires with alligator clips. If the AMP is getting the proper input in power and audio then the problem is most likely the amp. There are mixed reports of repairing them by replacing the capacitors. You could always send them out.

The amps are different front to rear in that they have different cross-overs. But purely for diagnostic purposes you could try a front amp in the rear.

You'll probably still wind up swapping out the amps. BTDT

A good cat-back exhaust also cures bose speaker problems
