Default quick exhaust question

Hey guys, just picked up a nice "untouched" '85 and have been going around it familiarizing myself with the car and it's features. anyway, I notice that it still has the factory exhaust on it, the weird thing is, it has dual tips on each muffler but if you look up into the tips, only one of them is open on each muffler, the other appears to be there "just for looks" is that something Chevy did? if so, anyone know why?

It is stock that way from Chevy. Supposedly only have one outlet eliminates drone.

It was done that way for cosmetic purposes. You can replace them (as I did) with factory exact duplicates only the duplicates have both outlets open on each muffler. You'll get better flow and a deeper exhaust note. Sounds better by far from the originals. You can buy them from any Corvette parts vendor.

I put DynoMax mufflers on my car, mainly because they have stainless steel tips and my stock tips were rusting.

Supposedly these mufflers are identical internally to the stock mufflers but both tips are functional. That said, only the one on the left gets black inside.

They are louder and I got a drone at around 50 - 55 MPH. I solved that by covering the interior with HushMat and getting a rear Y-pipe with a crossover.
