What kind of temps are you talking about. With the a/c on you should be around 200 - 205 degrees and with it off you should be around 225 to 230....Lots of owners think that the vette is running hot but they are designed to run hotter than other cars.
250 is too hot. Pull the radiator and clean out the leaves and trash stuck in it. Flush the sytsem. Make sure both fans are on when the A/C is running. Pop in a new T-stat, it may be sticking. Make sure there is no air in the system. You might want to try a bottle water wetter as well.
IN TRAFFAC , WITH THE AIR ON IT RUNS UP TO AROUND 250 UNTIL I HIT THE OPEN ROAD AGAIN AND IT COMES DOWN TO ABOUT 210 , I HAVE A 180 THERMOSTAT
Unless you have changed the programming in the computer your fans will not cut on till it gets around 195 or 200. I can't remember the setting but just having a 180 thermostat will not keep the temp down. If your car is getting up to 250 with the a/c on then you have either a cooling fan problem or trash in front of your radiator. Check and see if both of your cooling fans are working first. If they are then check the radiator area for trash.
Best thing to do is remove your radiator and clean off the front of it, then flush and refill. Add a bottle of Water Wetter, and your temperatures should have dropped 10-20 degrees.
160 tstats work ok in SC, i run one in mine, no problems. So i would change it to a 160.
These cars are designed to run hot for emissions purposes, temperatures up to 235 are not abnormal. If the above suggestions dont fix it, the only permanent fix is to send your PCM off to be reprogrammed to make the fans come on earlier.
thats way too hot, I just rode from NYC on the fourth and it was over 100 degrees that day with the AC on I think i was running around 190. I dont think the AC blows cold enough but thats another story.

as noted above, remove the shielding from the top or your radiators - there's a dead zone between them that fills with debris - how so much junk can get in there is a mystery, but it does!

I pulled a full plastic grocery bag full of leaves, packing peanuts, garbage, and something gooey from between the condensor and the rad! While you've got the shroud off...might as well pull the rad and give the fins a good cleaning too. You might be suprized at how little air flow you're really getting through the rad.
Wow! My engine compartment looks really clean, I would be surprised to find all that, but I will give it a try. My AC blows cold, but not that cold...know what I mean? Might just need recharging, but Im gonna attempt to yank the radiator and clean it first. THanks for the advice...
I HAD A LOT OF TRASH STUCK IN MY RADIATOR , CLEANED IT OUT, GOING TO GIVE IT A TEST DRIVE, SOON, IF THIS DON'T WORK I WILL TRY FLUSHING IT . THANK YOU GUYS FOR ALL THE HELP .
The air intake acts like a vaccum cleaner on the highway. It will pick up leaves, bags, paper and just about anything that isn't tied or stuck to the road. When I cleaned mine I found a plastic grocery bag, hot dog wrappers, gum wrappers and leaves. Now I clean this area yearly if not more often.
AFTER I CLEAN MIND, I WENT TO HOME DEPOT AND PICK SOME INSECT SCREENING AND CUT IT OUT ABOUT 10INCH WIDE & 32INCH LONG AND USING THE BOLTS & NUTS THATS HOLDS THE FRONT CENTER SPOILER AND BOLTS IT DOWN & DRILL HOLES IN THE TOP RAIL AND USE METAL CUTTING SCREWS TO HOLD THE TOP SCREEN, I USE TWO BOLTS ON THE SIDE .I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT THAT HAPPEN AGAIN . NOT BAD FOR $6 BUCK.
Had the same problem before, but that was after I put the 383 Stroker motor in. Almost went nuts! I had a BeCool radiator installed (at the same time as the motor), a 160 degree t-stat, had both fans come on at 190 degrees. Ended up needing to put in a high flow water pump. Worked like a charm. My temps usually sit around 200-210 while sitting in traffic in 90+ degree weather.
