I've been using a Duracell Battery Maintainer for over a year now with no problems. Vette is always ready to go. I use the cigarette lighter adapter and plug it in when I pull in the garage.

This is a great little charger/maintainer made by Schumacher.. I've had one on my Vette for 3 years now in the winter, works great....$20.88 shipped is also one heck of a price, I paid 27.00 plus tax at TSC when I got mine 3 years ago...

I have used Deltran battery tender JR for the last year and a half, no issues! You can get them at Auto Zone.

There are essentially two schools of thought on battery charging: old school or "dumb" chargers, and the new school or "smart" chargers.
Some time ago micro-processor technology was introduced and it revolutionized (lead acid) battery chargers.
The result of their use will vastly improve or double battery service life, compared to old fashioned chargers.
I've got two of the little 800mA Battery Tenders attached to my wife's and my Vettes. Her battery is now 7 years old, and the one in my Z is 5 years and counting. Both cars crank like the batteries were new - summer OR winter!
Several chargers now feature the new tech. The key is to either buy something like the Battery Tender, or be sure whatever is being considered has the "smarts", if prolonging battery life is important.
A good read on battery care was written some years ago by Marc Haibeck, a former electronics engineer for Fermi Labs, but now specializes in ZR-1s:
