Hi everyone: I'm looking to buy a 1989 Corvette with 44K. Both the PCV valve and Breather Valve have a kind of grimy substace around them Is this an indication of a serious problem or just a PCV repacement? Thank...........Dzer

pretty normal - most likely, you'll need to replace the rubber valve cover grommets.

Does it look any different from any other 24 year old PCV with 44,000 miles of under hood grime on it? (Probably not). I probably wouldn't worry about it.
Thanks Guys. I appreciate the input. I'm going this Friday to finalize the deal. The car is a 2 owner, 6 speed. Needs interior work (seats), Tires (original) and the wheels are tarnished (looks like peeling clear coat) and the piece at end of hood (top of bumper) has a scratch. Otherwise no accidents and the car seems to be fairly wholesome. And the price is right. Only other concern is, one of the former owners put a phone antenna on the passenger side rear fender (across from the radio antenna). If anyone has any 'quick fix' ideas to fill the hole, when I pull it out, I'd appreciate it. Thanks again........Dan

Filling the hole and matching pain could get expensive quickly. You could paint a Sirius patch antena to match the body color and mount it over the hole. It would be less noticable (and current technology) compared to the cell antenna. If anyone gives you grief about it, tell then the dumb butt previous owner did it and didn't even leave the receiver behind when he sold the car.
