I have a 1985 automatic Corvette, when in reverse it doesn't move and when I have it in neutral it goes forward, oh and also when I put it in park it jerks forward but then goes into park. I already checked the shift cable,I also lifted the car off the ground and manually, by hand, changed the gears but still nothing. Please help!
Disconnect the cable and move the shift lever on the trans by hand.
Your the shift lever on the trans has an adjustment. Maybe it slipped. Check the tightness of the 15mm nut on the back of the shift lever. Do this while the cable is disconnected -- it's possible to break the shift cable if the lever moves while tightening the nut (you don't need to ask me how I know this).
When the trans is in Park and the shifter is in Park the loop on the end of the shift cable should slip on the pin at the shift lever on the trans. If it doesn't then you need to move the pin (via the aforementioned 15mm nut).
