So a couple of weeks ago I put a couple of power outlets in behind the passenger side dash, I did the flat panel conversion. I used the stud for the dash support in that corner for a ground and hooked to the back side of the fuse block on a power on all the time feed. The past week or so the cranking over has been getting a little longer but I'm reading 13.8 to 14.5 volts while driving. Day before yesterday it cranked slowly and yesterday it was dead. Bought an new battery, dropped it in today, fired on a 1/4 crank. I have disconnected the power outlets for now, and my readout was 14.2 volts. I doubt it's the alternator but who knows till I get it home to test, maybe a wire has gone wrong, I'm hoping it was just the power outlets and I will need to find a hookup to power on with key. Anyone have this happen and what did you do?
Since you have already purchased a new battery, there is little sense in suggesting that you charge the old battery before buying new.
A battery load test might have been in order, but you solved that problem.
In theory, a fully charged battery will read 13.2V (2.2 per cell).
If your gage is showing 13.8 - 14.5 while driving, the alternator is working just fine.
You might check for amp draw with the outlets connected, and disconnected...... could be a short causing a parasitic draw on the batt.
power outlets unless something is hooked to them draw nothing at all. Seems you are charging fine by your numbers. The life of the battery was up and just a fult it happened after you installed the outlets
Well I have a 50 mile run home tomorrow, then I'll check it this weekend and throw the other battery on the charger. It's funny that that battery just fell on it's face so fast.
