Default Battery Removal

I am a new Corvette owner. Bought a 1995 in Dec 2013 from a friend who bought it in Arizona in October. Polo green conv, 41,000 miles.

How do you remove/replace the battery? Chilton's manuel does not address it. On a charger now, but will replace in the spring.

Never in rain or snow. I drove it from his house to mine on mild wet pavement. Now she is in a garage until April when all the salt is gone.

Actually very easy. I changed mine out yesterday. Remove the side panel - 3 torx head screws in the wheel well (turn the wheel to the left to get the tire out of the way), one bolt on top. There is another screw at the bottom of the panel that is difficult to access. I left that one in. You need a long extension to get to the battery hold down bolt. After removing the hold down, the battery slides out.

Thanks for the info. I kinda thought that was the only way. Just didn't want to start removing things without a little insight.

The lower bolt (10mm) under the gill panel needs to be loosened but not removed. Look for it in the gap between the gill panel and the rocker panel. You'll need a fairly thin wrench. Once that bolt is loose, the panel slides outward. If you leave the panel on, there is a good chance you'll break it, and the battery will be harder to remove anyway.

Buy an cheap 10mm wrench and grind it down to about 3/32-1/8" thick, this will allow you to easily access the lower 6mm bolt.. it only has to be loosened slightly, the Hole in the Panel is notched.

My '94 panel has plenty of room for a standard sized 10mm wrench. No grinding necessary. Apparently GM started leaving more wrench room for necessary panel removal in the last years of the C4.

My 95 didn't either. I guess the PO loosened it and never tightened it back. Explains why I was able to slide it back and get the battery out.

The only problems I see in the video is this bonehead doesn't know to turn the front tire for allen wrench clearance

The panel that hides the battery. I has the vents in it, kind of like the gills on a fish.
