You don't have a crankshaft positioner per se, that was on the 96 up. Do You have spark? Fuel? It could be a lot of things, you need to isolate the problem, its awful expensive to try and guess.

Yes but your car either uses a pickup coil (L98), or Optispark (LT1). You need to see which one you are not getting, spark or fuel. Then you can go from there.
Just pull off a spark plug wire and hold it like half an inch away from the spark plug and have someone crank it over. If you see an electrical arc, you have spark. Then you would be looking at other problems such as timing or compression. Or low fuel pressure or low spark voltage.
I would say you have a fuel injector that dumped fuel, or more than one. If you try to start it with your foot on the gas pedal, does it try to fire up?
