Default Antenna bracket

My antenna has fallen and it appears to be still attached to the bracket.
I am going to pull the wheel and remove the wheel well plastic.
I have good information from the forums on removing the antenna, but i do not find any information on how the bracket attaches.

Any words of wisdom?

From your description, not sure what your problem actually is. You can get at the antenna without removing wheel. The antenna bracket/antenna is fastened to the car with bolts, remove the bolts and the antenna slides right out of the body. Replacement antennas are available.

What year C4? IIRC, there's some variation in antenna attachment.

The car is a 1984. Pretty much stock as I can tell. Still x-fire

I recently purchased the car and it was the second time that I drove it.

On the way to work, I noticed the antenna was up, the radio was on.

I turned the radio off and the antenna went down.

On the way home, I could not see the antenna, radio on, radio off.

When I got home, the grommet hole was empty, no antenna.

I looked and it appears that the antenna is loose and still attached to the bracket.

A little rainy today so this is all I can see from looking under.

So, it think the top of the bracket must be fastened to something and with a nut or screw.

That is what I am looking for in advance of rain ending and the sun coming out. What holds the bracket to the car?

I think you may have lost the nut that goes on the outside of the
fender, causing the motor assembly to drop down.

So the top of the bracket is not connected to the car?

I just went and looked at the antenna I pulled off my '87, and the big nut
is inside the fender (and behind the wheel ;-) ).

Well the sun came out and I have the antenna.

yes looks like it just dropped down.

I have the bracket that the bottom of the antenna mounts to and it looks like the bracket has some holes that would be used to attach it to something but I have not found a corresponding surface.

I can push the antenna back through the fender grommet but I do not see any interior or exterior threads that would utilize a nut/bezel to secure the antenna after it is inserted.

I guess that is why it fell.

Good news is the once I pushed it back through, it still goes up and down.

I'll look some more and see what I can see.

Push, Peggy, Push

An the little antenna popped out.

I do not have threads on the OD or the ID, nuts.

So it felt like it could be pushed a little higher into the grommet.

Feels more secure now.

I guess I will have to watch to make sure.

Thanks for your help.

I suspect your antenna has been replaced with something non-original.
That's not a completely bad idea because up through '87 you have to
pull the antenna to replace the mast. '88 and up you can replace the
mast with the motor on the car.

When I replaced the antenna on my '87, I used the '88+ style antenna,
and I recollect that I had to fabricate a new bracket. Maybe the PO
didn't do that and just kinda shoved it up there.

Thanks.

It hung in there all day. So maybe OK.

But I think I will have to support it better, when the weather breaks.
