Local NEW Corvette sales ad circa 1989
Local NEW Corvette sales ad circa 1989 from a Chevrolet dealer in Birminghams AL. Kinda cool, I found it packed away in a box I had stored in the basement. I was 20 years old then but I wish I could buy a brand new 1989 Corvette for that price today. lol

Wow, this is really cool. Last night while looking through those papers I found the actual ad in the Birmingham News where I found my Corvette back in May of 1988. The ad says red which is what I originally wanted but when we got there the car was actually dark red. My Dad asked me while we were test driving it what I thought because he knew I really wanted red. I remember telling him I liked it and it was the best one we had looked at. Not the color I wanted but when I saw it I actually liked it more than plain red.

That's one heck of a good price for a loaded 89. My 90 was bough by the original owner for $39,850. Mine has everything except for Z51. Even the heated mirrors.

My '85 came from Birmingham but I dont know if it was originally purchased there. I was working for a contractor who had it and traded $5K in invoices and $2K cash. I only had $1800 in the invoices so I thought I got a steal considering he had invested $11K in the resto. He did it for his son who never could master the 4 speed. We both did ok cuz the boy got an '02 auto and I got a fresh resto'ed '85.

I wonder what the options were on that '89 'vette. I suspect it was, ah,
not "well equipped".
Also, what's the date on the newspaper? Is this an end-of-model-year
close-out sale?
I remember $1800 Gremlins, and $1900 Pintos (had a GF who had one
of those Pintos -- if it wasn't legally required, it didn't have it.).

Nice information again!
I remember my dad buying his '74 L82 for $6200 back in '82. It was a cool looking car, but very sluggish off the line. About a month after he bought it his mechanic friend wound up selling a mint '69 427 orange convertible for $6000 that my Dad had to pass on since he was now broken from the '74. Talk about bad timing!
There's a resurgence on the C3's now, but I remember back when the C4 came out saying smog era C3's were yesterday's news was a understatement. My dad's 74 plummeted in value after '84 and all of a sudden wasn't such a cool car to be seen in anymore. Sleek was the name of the game once the C4 came out.

The ad does say "loaded, Every option" though.

Drifting
Yep. I remember when pick ups were usually base models and things like A/C, power windows, auto transmissions, and rear bumpers were optional. I think it would be good if we went a bit backwards now, I mean, who can afford a new car or truck these days? Between my wife and I our income is well into 6 figures, and we both drive older used cars. The thought of spending $20k to $25k for a basic sedan seems ridiculous to me.
