This problem just recently started. When I come to a stop sign or light, the engine idles too slow and dies.(rpm goes below 500) It is difficult to start. But it will start after a couple times if I push down on the accelerator about a quarter of the way. I have had the fuel system cleaned and injectors are all okay. They were replaced a couple of years ago. Any thoughts? Thanks.
Try cleaning your throttle body and IAC motor with throttle body/carb cleaner. The computer uses the IAC control motor for idle, so when you come to a stop you should be idling off of the computer's command.
If you put it in neutral when you come to a stop, does it idle?
If you hold your foot on the gas when you to a stop with it in neutral, does it still run?
Auto or manual? I ask because when shifting a manual if it has a tendency to have a rough shift, i.e. driveline slamming back and forth I would say your IAC is not functioning. It gets input from your computer and the TPS. I would start by checking voltage of the TPS and check the IAC counts. Reset the minimum idle and go from there.

- if you're going to service the TB/IAC valve, remove the complete TB assembly from the engine - break down to the LRU - CLEAN, CLEAN, CLEAN, new gaskets, and re-assemble. cleaning and servicing the TB on the car is a hit-or-miss band-aid!

The car is an '89 with a 6 spd. If I put it in neutral and coast to a stop, at the same time keeping my foot on the accelerator to keep the RPMs to more than 500, all is well. It just idles too slow.
Okay so it sounds like your car is idling too low. Have you ever messed with the throttle set screw on the throttle body? If you have access to a scan tool, can you tell us how many steps the computer has set for the IAC?
I still recommend cleaning out the throttle body and IAC before going any further. You will see an increase in performance and it also may be the cause of your problem.

My 89' was doing that occasionally and it ended up being the timing was out of whack. It supposed to be set at 6 BTDC and when I checked it, it was at 12 to 14 due to a bad distributor hold down clamp and/or bolt.
