The 84 seems to be getting a little more recognition regarding handling with the Z/51 package etc. We all know that the cross fire was short on HP, but is the 84 among the lighter Corvettes -my registration lists mine as 3,108lbs, which seems pretty darn good.

I'm seeing 3200 from most sources. Regardless, with only 205hp, its fairly slow. The L98 made a HUGE difference in straight line performance in 85.

With a "full load" of fuel an AT was advertised at 3192 and an MT at 3164 in the MVMA documents - the MVMA of course went away when they realized the production information was being used against them in "personal injury cases"! (MVMA - Motor Vehicle Manufacturers Association)

Yup and lighter weight and aggressive suspension made the 84 a great track car.

If the driver's door hasn't been changed or repainted, there should be a sticker that shows the shipping weight of your car. It will also show the weight on each axle.

The weight of the car will vary based on the options that came on it. My '87 had a shipping weight of 3185 with the front axle weight being 1649 lbs and the rear axle weight is 1489.

You gotta remember in 1984, the new vette was one of the fastest and best handling production cars on the road. So in 1984 it wasn't slow. The only regular production cars that were faster were the Porsche 928, the Ferrari 308 and the Lamborghini Countach, and maybe one or two other exotics that I can't remember.
