remove paint from plastic????
I've decided on doing a custom paint scheme for my interior trim pieces (95 LT1) and here is my problem. I need to remove the rubber / paint coating from the interior trim pieces around the shifter and radio. I'm looking for a way to remove this stuff without damaging the plastic underneath. Most chemicals used for removing paint will also eat into plastic. Does anyone have any ideas how to do this? I asked vettewrench a while back (has his trim pieces painted) and he had his done by a shop. Looking for suggestions.

I do plastic car models, and I've run across this article while looking for tips. Luckily I haven't needed to do it.

I prefer a chemical removal versus a physical removal technique. Chemical paint removal is fast, and providing you use the right agent will not harm the plastic underneath.

Well thanks to a previous post I am using brake fluid with great results. Brush it on and let it soak for a few hours. Then Q-tips and cotton ***** take the stuff right off. Once it's completely removed I'll be ready for paint prep. Then it's just a matter of posting the pics. It's a good project while I'm waiting for my optispark and water pump to come in. I'll keep you posted as I continue with the project.
