Major project going on. Dropping my batwing to replace the stock 2.59 dana 36 with a 3.07. While I have it out I am going to replace my bushings with urethane bushings from Prothane. Also going to polish everything up, batwing, all control arms and hubs, exhaust and driveshafts. Replacing main u-joints while I have it apart, had already replaced half shaft u-joints and rear wheel bearings a couple of months ago. Here is a little sampling of what I can look forward to.
OP says in original post he has a 2.59 and going to upgrade to the 3.07 which is a very good idea, even for the street. Enjoy the new gear. One other nice upgrade if you haven't done yet would be the 3 piece under drive pulley set.
With the gear swap what range will the top end fall into. I need to ck my 95 ratio, it has a good snap to it now.
It will reduce it by a factor of = 2.59/3.07 = .844 x top speed for any gear
However!! rear wheel torque will be increased by a factor of 1.185 x current torque in any gear. That will make quite a difference, especially at normal city/highway driving!!

Got a link to half shaft u-joints? Going from a 2.59 to a 3.75 in mine.... Can not wait to punch it!! Lol
I can't believe these c4's came with a 2.59 rear gear. I have 2.73's behind an automatic in another vehicle I own, and it's a dog. I would imagine a 3.07 should be MINIMUM, if not 3.31's and higher. Depending on power level, and the use of the car, I think 3.5x or 3.7x would be great. The overdrive will be more useful, and still provide good MPG (in an auto car).
The LT5 guys are jumping to 3.73's and even 4.10's. Which, behind a 6-speed is very appropriate on the highway and 5th and 6th gear usage. Heck, with the 1st gear in the ZF6, a 4.10 is still fine. "If' you exceed 450rwhp, the 4.10's might feel a bit short in the first few gears, and traction could be a problem.
What is considered the best stock gear ratio in the C4? I have the 3.54 in my 92.
This is a mystery ratio to me. I've heard about it, but I haven't come across a car actually equipped with them. I think the difference between 3.45's and 3.54's would be MARGINAL at best.
The 2.59 isn't as bad as you would think. Certainly not like the old cars with a 2.73 or 2.56. The 4L60 is geared pretty good for this gear. While not ideal for the stoplight grand prix the 2.59s pull out pretty decent.
