I drove my 84 consistently for 6 years. Summer and winter here in Illinois, it was dicey but it can be managed. Sometimes I plowed snow wit the chin and other times it was icy and I wound go on praying and driving...very slowly. BUT you got to be a GOOD driver real fast..
As has been said more than enough times...it ALL DEPENDS ON THE TIRES. A 'Vette with good snows will drive circles around a 4x4 with bald slickers.
Mine, is terrible (currently) b/c it has summer UHP tires. When I got it, it had cheap-o tires and it actually went surprisingly well in the snow. I drove it over
After I got some different tires on my 84 I drove a few days in a couple inches of snow. Much more than 2 or inches I sure wasnt trying. Two days ago the snow melted and we got ice storms. I heard a pickup spinning its tires going up the street next to my house, but it didnt seem that bad so I drove.
The tires I got are directional tires, I dont know if that makes any difference and I never even heard of directional tires until then.
I've had the back end come completely around on 1/2 inch of snow and tires that had 5000 miles on them.
Many years ago, i didn't check the weather reports and came out of a party to see 3" on the ground and on my 84. Slept in the car and fortunately it warmed up in the morning and was able to drive home.
