Default What Suspension

Hi All,
I'm trying to figure out what suspension my 85 has The only code I could figure from the tag on the compartment door behind the seat about suspension is FG3 (preloaded gas shocks). I was able to see NYR I think on the rear spring. It also has the 3.07 gear and oil cooler.

I have an 85, yours sounds like a Z51. The Z51 should be listed on your build tag. Steering lock to lock is just past 2 turns.

I believe you asked the spring codes the other day and you didn't mention having the SPID label (RPO) codes in the compartment. The NYR isn't a valid code for the '85 rear spring but it's not unusual that it could have been replaced.

The snapshot is the best idea I guess if you're unsure of the option codes. Were you able to find the front spring code from the other day?

What codes do you have other than the FG3 you mention that start with an F - FE7 would be HD and if there were no others then it's not likely that it's a Z51 car.

You posted while I was doing the response. Your car has base suspension with only a "shock option". Not uncommon. It's an A4/700R4 so there's no unusual options at all other than a 3.07, oil cooler and HD cooling.

Yep that was me.
Do you know what the the shock option would be? They say Delco Bilstien . I started autocrossing the car not that long ago and may try changing some things.

Bilstein's would've been the standard upgraded shock.

Would they be the same shocks that come on the z51 cars?

Yes if they're the originals. Are there any labels still on the shocks with perhaps a two letter code. Label would be 3/4" square white with CAPS for two letter code in black. About 1/2" from the bottom of the shock the Bilstein OR the GM number should be stamped into the shock. That would be in maybe 3/16" characters. What is that information?

If original they of course are now something near 29 years old maybe closer to 30.

The number on the front shock looks like 4500226w00.

This site may list many of your RPO codes. From what others have stated, its by no means a complete listing. good but not all inclusive.

53, Gold Metallic, S, 1,411 made that color.that year. in 86 they made 777 in that color..which is my 86. like your wheels.

Thanks. They're American racing wheels. 17x9.5 front and 17x11 rear.
