I just looked at the TPIS ceramic coated headers. I could not be more impressed by the fact they made them with the spacer off the head. Two very important reasons, EASY access and the spacer allows for the two support brackets. I spent $500 on my Headman headers. I am happy now that the nightmare is over but the fact remains if I ever have a leak down the road access is IMPOSSIBLE. These TPIS headers only have one draw back and that is no emissions. Race application only says the ad. I would only need collector insurance here in AZ to bypass emissions and lots of guys do this to avoid emissions. My 1988 is a daily driver during the winter, spring, and fall. Anyway very nice headers. I broke off the spacer from my stock headers and used it for my support brackets.

TPIS makes headers with the emissions hook ups....WW
Yes, they do or they use to; I have a set of TPIS headers (been on forever though) but they have the provisions for the air pump accessories, and you can utilize your EOM manifold bolts, brackets, etc.
Dude:
Leave the exhaust alone!
C4s have bad drone if you swap out the stock system.
You will regret it ...
Engineers designed the exhaust system for a reason so don't f--k with it!
Again, you will be sorry because drone can kill your hearing over time!
I have a '85 with Hooker Headers and a B&B cat back exhaust. I had a '86 with just mufflers. The '85 feels sooooo much faster. I bet in reality the horsepower increase was minimal but it spins the tires off a roll some much easier and it's a lot more fun to drive. No drone either.

Leave it Alone ! ! !
My exhaust system has a bad drone between 1300 rpm and 1700 rpm. The sound is a pain at times for example I can not talk to my phone and have it perform tasks for me. Short of that it is well worth the loud noise. My problem might be from the Flowmaster 44 mufflers and the fact I have true dual. My system is not joined together anywhere and I was told that would help minimize the drone issue. Around town driving when I let off the gas and it is between the RPM's mentioned it's loud and clear. Not an issue for me so much. I drive that car ALL THE TIME. Someone might chime in on the exact cause of the drone ?
Tint stayed on the hatch of my 85 well. Did it very dark since the car is black on black on black. My headers added so much more power I was surprised. Now rebuilding the car completely and stroking the engine to a 388 and adding supercharger. Hope to have it ready to go by summer.
I'd leave it be and listen to your mechanic. But if you go headers follow advice given regarding ceramic. Alternators, plastics, rubber etc. do not like heat. Stock C4's provides plenty enough heat on their own.
