I am trying to get my backup lights to work, one side does and when I pulled out the other side, someone had pushed the light bulb all the way into the housing so that even the foam/rubber gasket is shoved in. Do the wires unplug from the lightbulb assembly or do i have to cut them. I have been trying to pry it out but its going to crack the housing. If the wires just unplugged it would make this easier but I dont want to pull on those and brake them. any suggestions?
I have a 94 and I had to replace the switch in the tranny and I replaced both bulbs with halogen bulbs. My sockets/bulbs are accessed thru the lisc. plate opening, not from the front thru the lense. Remove the plate and then a quarter turn on each socket reaching thru the plate area should remove the socket/ bulb from the housing, then you can change the bulb easily. I don't remember there being a plug going to the socket. If you can't get the "stuck one out, remove the working one with the quarter turn and look at that one. Hope this makes sense!
My reverse lights are not working. Bulbs are good, fuse is good. I am thinking it is this switch in the tranny that Richard said he replaced. Is it this part?

Is this easily assessable to replace? Where exactly is it located?
Thanks for any input :-)
That is considered the "service replacement" but you might want to check the connector OR if you like remove the switch and soak it in some brake-clean or chock cleaner or what ever and free the detent ball. Easy? That only you can determine depending on tools available, lift etc. The switch is top left in this image just below the vent tube. The large cylinder is the CAGS and the VSS is way to the rear on the right.
The original switch does NOT have the pigtail that the CC does.
Same problem here, but both lights are inoperative. Replaced the bulbs and I don't find any defective fuses or obvious wiring issues, so it looks like I'm going to have to replace the switch on the tranny as well. Never been under this car, so I don't really know what to expect in terms of difficulty or ease of access.
Mitch I am in the same boat. I already ordered the part from CC but I will try and clean the stock one first as advised here, if I end up not needing the part I will let you know. Doesn't look too complicated, I just need to remember where the good jack points are under the Vette.
That darn switch is WAY up in there and best accessed by elves. I was going to replace mine but when I replaced the trans oil with AmsOil manual syncromesh fluid, it magically started working again! The only thing I can figure is that the fresh oil must have washed something sticky out of the detent ball and let the switch start making contact again.
Klondike, that is very interesting. I might try that fix myself before cleaning the switch. Where are the drain and fill bolts located?
Right side of trans and the bottom of the trans. It's a M17 HEX and you need to make sure you can remove the one on the side before you remove the bottom one to drain it. If you remove the bottom and drain it THEN realize the fill on the side is frozen life gets miserable quickly!
