I wish I could say I was on a cross country trek in my '85 but it was a case of heading home from work. Driving along I 295 beltway here in JAX a bald eagle swooped down into some standing water not 20' from the rush hour traffic. Now if that aint a citified eagle I dont know what is. We actually have a fair population in and around the area. I recently worked at a house and next door there was an eagles nest in the yard. Another neighborhood only builds in certain area during nesting and raising times to not disturb the process.
I am thankful that in all the crap that goes on in this country that somehow we have seen fit to help our national pride bird come back from near extinction. Makes ya proud.
Just thought I would share with my C4 Brethren. Something as American as apple pie, baseball and a little sports car made in Bowling Green.
Here in North Jersey we have seen a phenomenal comeback in the numbers of Hawks and Eagles. I never use to see them now I see them all the time. One was in my yard about 6 years ago eating a pigeon. I tapped on my window when I saw it and it put out it's wings and took off. What a sight!
One of the neatest raptor experiences was once when I was hunting off a tree stand fully camo'ed and a hawk came in about 15 feet from me and lighted on a branch about the same level as I was. He studied me for a minute or two and I got to thinking what if he thought my eyeballs were something to eat. I shifted my whole body a bit to let him know I was more than a mouthful. After that he went back to looking out over the same bottom I was studying and we hunted together for about ten minutes. One of the best hunting partners I ever had.

I saw some of the largest birds I've ever seen eating up a dead animal right in front of my house last fall. I think they were vultures, which is unusual for North NJ. I brought the Vette and the dog inside right away when I saw them...they were massive!

Yep, you're right, they were probably vultures. Sandy caused a lot of them to move to different areas. Hopefully they'll migrate back to their normal habitat.
