Default EGR System

Has anyone removed the EGR system on their car? What are the Pro's and Con's doing so? One I can see immediately is a cleaner looking engine bay. Thank you.

Pro's. 1 No dirty exhaust gasses entering combustion chamber

Con's. unless you remove the check egr flag in the program you will get EGR codes when on the highway after around 10 mins.

The typical thing people go on about is hotter temperatures, however i ran my EGR disconnected on my 85 for many years without a problem.
I cannot see how exhaust gas being returned to combustion chamber lowers temperatures.

You will need to get the ecm chip modified or if you use tuner pro and the interface cables etc, then you can easilly remove the EGR check tick and you will never get EGR codes again.

The software can be downloaded from tunerpro.
You will need to download the bin and definition files for your year vette first.

The moates ALDL adapter cable $80 and Ostrich 2 emulator $175

It dilutes the intake charge with dirty air depriving the engine of oxygen during the brief moment you crack the throttle open from idle or a low engine load. It doesn't do it continously, just at the moment you transition. the EGR orifice is usually tuned to the engine size so as not to cause a bog or delay of any kind. EGR does not function at wide open throttle or under power at all.

You could invest in tuning software to get rid of it, but why on a street car? May as well let it function and reduce the formation of oxides of nitrogen.

NOx forms during combustion temperature spikes. usually from high engine temps, too much ignition timing during lean operation, lean operation, high compression, low overlap on cam timing, or some combination of these events. running 1.6 rocker arms, using a cam with more duration/overlap, and programming the fans to come on sooner will reduce NOx too, but I see no reason to throw out a perfectly functioning EGR valve on any engine up to about 400 hp.
