Default C4 vs C7

I saw my first C7 in person Friday evening. It was white like my C4. His interior was red/black mine is all black.

The things that struck me:

1. I don't like the proportions. It looks a bit awkward to me from just about every angle. He had the targa off. Just looks a little weird. The car definately looks better in pictures.

2. The engine compartment looks like every other car with plastic engine covers. Not interesting or attractive at all to me.

I know it has more power, better handling and it's certainly a fresh new car but I decided that my owning a C7 dream is now gone. I prefer my old C4 thank you very much.

I do realized that others have different taste and performance wants and there's nothing wrong with that. I figure I just saved myself about $60 grand by seeing one up close.

Check out the carpet in the C7. If the C2's had 80/20, C7's have 20/5. I've seen better nap on patios. Take a good look at a C7 and a C6 together and at different angles. You'll discover that most off the vents and rear lamps are basically just tricks to hide the similarities in the two bodies.

I was up in st. Louis for christmas when a bud of mine called and asked me to look at a white c7 z51 with 1500 miles. He ended up purchasing the car and my son and i drove it back to houston. On the way, i was looking at the docs and saw that it had been in for service to the mirrors and when leaving texarkana, the mirrors failed. I did not like not being able to see the sides of the car as there is a huge blind spot on the pass side. It has been in the dealer for a few minor problems, but now it is in for major engine problems. He is really getting disgusted with the car. Gadget wise, the car is pretty awesome, driving wise i like the c4 - c6's better.

Default C7 vs C4

I went to the AutoShow the other month and had a chance to view and sit in both a coupe and convertible. Being I have a C4 convertible, I spent more time in the convertible. I'm trying to do as much of the maintenance on my 86 convertible as I can, I don't think there's anything under the hood of that C7 I'd risk touching. The C7 interior was pretty, but again if anything goes wrong it would be back to the dealership as it's unlikely I has the tools or knowledge on how to fix anything.
The one thing I did like on the C7 convertible over the C4 convertible was the trunk lid. That's something I've wondered why it was never part of the plan. Other than that, I have to say I'd forget the house payment for the C7 and keep my C4. I still think the C4 is an attractive car and has lots of years left in it.
My opinion.

I've always heard that the C4 was the last generation where the design was primarily based on the coupe, then they cut the top off and strengthened the weak points to make the convertible. I think that's why there's no trunk.

I'd like to see the vert in person. It looks better than the coupe to me.

I drove a C7 at the Las Vegas ExoticsRacing this past weekend and the C7 is light years ahead of any older vette. I think they look damn good in person as well.

Saw a cyber gray C7 the other day at my local grocery store. To be honest, I wasn't all that impressed. There's something about the C4 that makes me smile Maybe it's because of its small size. Every new car seems to get bigger and bigger nowadays

My C4 will be for sale when my ordered C7 gets shipped from the factory. I have always liked the unique design of the C4, however advances in technology have overcome my past longings.

I saw a black C4 and a red C7 together on the street the other day. The C4 looked damn good compared to the C7.

The C7 isn't growing on me. Good grief! They could have done better. I heard the C7 is going to be in the next transformers movie. Good. Finally a setting where it will look at home.

And I don't appreciate the complicated lifter setup for the displacement on demand.

I get the impression, based off the OPs comments, this is more about style than performance. Obviously as a general rule each successive Corvette has better technology and performance than the predecessor. Bringing performance up as the defining difference defeats the point of the discussion due to redundancy.

I think the C4 has some of the best proportions of all of the Corvettes. Maybe you're not big on the simple lines (I happen to like the understated lines), but I think proportionally they nailed it with the C4 coupe. The C7,I agree with the OP, it looks a bit... off. I think design details on the car are really cool (even if it barely looks anything like what we associate with "Corvette") but proportionally it seems awkward. I'm sure getting behind the wheel is a blast, though.

If I could afford it, my LT4 would be gone tomorrow and replaced with a C7.
Yes, GM hit a home run with the new car!

Haven't driven one, but have seen quite a few of them.

I've posted these pics before so sorry for the redundancy, but comparing a C4 and a C7 from simply a styling aspect, well I'd hope they look different. I can only imagine what the vette community thought the first time they saw a 68 model or for that matter the 63 coupes and verts. Seeing both the 4 and 7 next to each other I can appreciate both cars equally. Each has a lot to offer as far as eye appeal goes. Would I trade in my 94 for a new vette? Only if I got the greatest deal in the history of automotive trade-ins Each model has it's own styling merits (and some would argue flaws) but each is it's own beast with it's own fan base.

The C4 styling is timeless. I think it still looks good.

Here's your C4 trunk. Took this pic at Champaign last year. The display was just setting up so no one was there to answer questions.
I posted these up on Facebook and someone told me that this was the test mule for the C5 vert trunk.

I saw and sat in the C7s that were available there. The rear lights/vents still do not set well with me but I think they are less noticeable on a black car. The interior is freakin gorgeous. I would pick a black coupe with the chrome wheels and a red interior if I could afford one. Actually, I could afford one but I could not afford the divorce that would come with it.
