optispark
i'm changing out my waterpump on my 1995 corvette and want to replace the optispark when i have it apart. what part(s) is known to fail? i don't know if it's the cap, distributor or both. thanks for your input.

What's wrong with your opti? Like they say if it ain't broke don't fix it. The pump is usually changed when you need to replace an opti because you have to take it off anyway but changing a good operating opti just because your taking off the pump is just asking for trouble in my opinion.

leave the opti alone.Take your new pump and modify the weep hole on the underside. I bought a brass nipple and drilled the hole a little larger, tapped in the nipple and put JB weld around it where it enter the pump. Then slipped some tubing over the nipple. Plumbed this down the front of the engine. So if it leaks thru the weep hole in the future, it will not go onto the opti.

How many miles on car?i don't know why people are so afraid of the opti's.. It's just like any other distributor, it needs maintenance sometimes too. New cap and rotor if over 40k miles on car. That is a cause of misfires too if gone without maintenance.

it will continue to look and perform good because you fixed the oil leaks. if you would have let it leak you would have been in there before too much longer to replace the opti.
