Hi all. I will tell you my story/ problem and hope you guys in America can help a guy in Australia . I have recently purchased an 84 C4 that has had an LS 1 engine conversion done. To do this conversion they imported a crate motor from the states. I live in NSW and car was purchased in ACT so has to be inspected in NSW before I can register car. My problem is that being a crate motor I have no engine number. The bloke doing registration check can't pass car without one. He has told me that if I can come up with a number we can use than all good. So here is my ask. Can anyone over there please supply me with an LS1 engine number to get me out of this bind? Thanks and fingers crossed!

Whose crate engine? GM or after-market?
A GM crate engine would have information in the same locations as a production engine OR on the flange of the block on the oil pan rail.

Why couldn't you use a Holden LS engine ID for the registration?
Hi. The paperwork I got with the car doesn't tell me who they got the motor from in the States. I had a look using your picture as a guide. Only number I could see was down near sump and only has six numbers. Could that be it? Motor was imported in 2002. If I use an Australian number the powers to be are saying that it now has a Holden number therefor engine conversion must be engineered. Rough cost , approx $1500. Whereas if it has an American number than they are happy to accept it as out of a corvette. They have just merged with another govt department and so are power tripping to justify they're jobs. Thanks again for feedback.
