Is it really necessary to remove the center console around automatic shifter to get a replacement of the power window switch or does the switch pry out and up, thanks.
I've managed to remove one up through the hole in the console but it was a PITA and putting it back in even more so. Though removing the console IS the safer way to access the switch & its socket.
BTW, what was happening to those switches in my '88 was corrosion of the copper/brass prongs. I was able to clean them with metal polish and the switch was once more usable.

Thought about this but when moving the switch forward and back found the "throw" for the driver's side as opposed to the passenger side is much different and the one in question doesent spring back to a neutral position. Thanks for the idea. I have ordered a new switch and evidently this is not an un-common problem because their tons out there for sale. Just getting old and breaking down and in the "nickel and dime" stage.
I just changed out my switch and pigtail, I was able to get it out and in by just lifting up the center piece, I didn't take off shifter ****. Good luck
