'85 Stalling out..
Could the fuel filter do this..?
Any ideas?
Firstly check your ignition leads, spark plugs are all good.
Check your IAC (idle air controller) is not loose, check the square plug at the passenger side of engine below the TPS.
If it is loose remove the valve and set the distance from tip of the spindle to where the spindle comes out of the valve, it should be set to 28mm before refitting to throttle body or you can damage it.
Check your EGR valve (exhaust gas recirculation valve)
If it is not closing properly the engine will stall at idle, unfortunately you need to remove one of the runners and the plenum.
You can check it by applying vacuum and the egr valve should move up and come back down when vacuum is released.
Once confirmed it jams and does not close fully or freely replace the EGR valve, the next thing would be to check the IAC (idle air controller) stepper motor if it is seizing.
Of course if the EGR or IAC valve was faulty you will need to do the base idle setting again.
Good luck
